A new custom is rapidly spreading across Western professional environments: explicitly stating one’s personal pronouns, such as “He/Him,” “She/Her,” and increasingly, “They/Them/Their,” alongside one’s name.
While this new form of introduction is little known in Asia, including Japan, it is the indispensable “key” to understanding the diversity of gender identity.
