The collapse of talks between Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky on February 28 has made Europe aware of the need for a defense policy less dependent on U.S. military power.
Furthermore, on April 2, the U.S. plans to announce “reciprocal tariffs” that will match the tariff levels of its trading partners.
Consequently, the global economy must reduce its reliance on exports to the United States.
What concerns me is that despite over two months since the Trump administration took office, Japanese media appears unable to grasp the current situation.
On March 21, the Nikkei published an article titled “The Contradictions of a Stock Market-Dependent U.S.,” arguing:
