Japan’s political landscape may be entering a once-in-decades period of upheaval, following Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s decision to dissolve the lower house and call a snap election, and the move by Komeito and the Constitutional Democratic Party (CDP) to form a new party.

Today (January 19), Prime Minister Takaichi is scheduled to hold a press conference, and the new Centrist Reform Alliance (CRA) is expected to release its platform.

However, given the limited information available at this stage, it is difficult to forecast the post-election outlook.

This note therefore organizes the current situation based on reporting to date.
